Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born on the 4th of June, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actress and director who is known for her sexual edginess and sex appeal as well as for her work for the cause of helping others. She won an Academy Award for her supporting character as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her early years in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years, and was then accepted into Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. She also appeared in theatre productions, and was a model for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) when Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1996; divorcing 1999). The film did not find an audience, as did several subsequent films. Jolie was the segregationist wife of Alabama's governor and garnered plenty of attention in 1997. The actress later won a Golden Globe Award. In the following year, she played an ultramodel who was who was struggling with addiction issues in the HBO movie Gia the actress, which brought her numerous awards which included a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. After her Oscar-winning performance from Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy with John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton, and in 2003 she divorced. She played the role of the girlfriend of carjackers (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later changed her accent to an accent that resembled a British accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing to play the main roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). She portrayed Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004) as well as appeared alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York City). Both films were box-office disappointments However, Jolie was a huge success in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) the film where she played an assassin disguised as a normal housewife; while making the film she became acquainted with Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
